Wonton more Chinese
One of the most famous restaurants in Charlottesville, Peter Chang, is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant (sushi is Japanese). Peter Chang is famous for it’s authentic Chinese recipes. When it opened, people from around the world flew into Charlottesville just to have his gourmet dishes. I have been there a couple of times and can confirm that it is a very special treat. Peter Chang, the chef, is no longer in Charlottesville, but his restaurant stands as one of my very favorite restaurants. It’s been along time since I have been, and I was excited to try something new. I got the Szechuan Dan Dan Noodles (wheat noodles with beef, and a boatload of spices, scallions, and peanuts). My mom ordered the scallion bubble pancake with stir fried shrimp with scrambled eggs. My dad ordered cold mixed wood ear mushroom with Thai chili, flounder fish with sour cabbage soup and grandma’s steamed ribs with rice flour. My brother got stir fried smoked duck. My Szechuan noodles were very spicy, more than I would expect from a single pepper mark. I was able to deal with it and I quite liked the meal, but any more spice and I don’t think I could have eaten it. My mom’s pancakes were delicious as always (she always orders that). If you don’t know, her pancakes are humongous, filled with air and served with curry. You can see the picture down below. My brother (Zane) absolutely loved his duck, and I agree, it was delicious. My dad did not like his steamed ribs, but he really liked his other two dishes. We were all surprised how quickly the food got spicy, even my dad, who is proud of his love of spice. Overall it was a very fun, very tasty night. If you like Chinese food, you’ll love Peter Chang. The place was reasonably accessible, although most of the restaurant has a couple stairs to reach it. There are only a few tables that you don’t need stairs to get to. The stairs do have railings on both sides of the stairs which helps me a lot, but wouldn’t help a wheelchair. There’s no ramp to get to the lower level. There is plenty of close parking.
